Neighborhood Improvement Matching Grant Program

City Council took steps in 2002 to support neighborhoods in Mason City through:

  1. The creation of the Neighborhood Development Specialist position,
  2. The establishment of the Neighborhood Services Division in what was then the Community Development Department and is now the Building and Neighborhood Services Department,
  3. Improvements in enforcing animal control laws,
  4. Funding of neighborhood improvement grants.

This program awards grants of up to $1,000 each to neighborhood associations for projects that improve the neighborhood. Examples of projects include:

  • neighborhood clean-up projects
  • sidewalk repair projects
  • security lighting improvements
  • enhancements to city right-of-way in the neighborhood
  • construction of welcome signs.

The program requires a 100% match, however, the match may include cash donations, donated services, materials or equipment, and volunteer labor.

The Neighborhood Improvement Grant Application may be submitted at any time.
