This property was the site of Monroe Junior High School from 1917 until was closed in 1985 and then demolished in 1990. The property was given to the City on March 16, 2004 for a Neighborhood Park. A ribbon cutting was held on July 20, 2005.

Located at the intersection of 12th Street Northwest and North Monroe Avenue, Monroe Park contains approximately 5 acres of land that is mostly open space. There is an asphalt oval walking track (1073 feet in length), a basketball court and an open area to practice soccer or fly a kite. The park also includes a playground area installed in 2009 and a picnic shelter.
