Joint Comprehensive Plan

The Joint Comprehensive Plan has been a historic, cooperative effort for Mason City, Clear Lake, and Cerro Gordo County to collaborate and work together to attempt to provide & protect a future that benefits the entire region.

ABOUT THE PLAN

The 2023-2024 North Iowa Corridor Joint Comprehensive Plan replaces Mason City’s previous plan, adopted in 2006. The cities of Mason City and Clear Lake and Cerro Gordo County all had outdated plans, and the leadership of the three communities recognized the advantages of working together on a joint comprehensive plan for the area collectively known as the North Iowa Corridor. The three jurisdictions recognize that there are histories, heritages, and cultural elements that make each of them unique, but also bind them together. These elements – for example, a shared musical heritage and dedication to the arts, among others – needed to be highlighted and utilized in a cooperative and comprehensive way. This Joint Comprehensive Plan capitalizes on those commonalities while recognizing the unique part that each jurisdiction plays in the North Iowa Corridor. Therefore, this Joint Comprehensive Plan has been a historic, cooperative project for Mason City, Clear Lake, and Cerro Gordo County to plan together for a future that benefits the entire region. The Plan utilizes common language and symbology but has three distinct plans to serve each community.
